Thank you for the book suggestion! I'm always looking for new books to read about feminism & women's issues.

I would recommend checking out Elizabeth Wurtzel's "Bitch". It's a highly readable, angry, and smart book about the sexual objectification of women (and tons of other topics).

Kristen: Hypocrite in Pouffy White Dress is an excellent book, I highly recommend it. I think Gilman does a really interesting job explaining her confusion about doing the whole wedding thing and being a feminist, something that speaks to me a lot. I hope you get a chance to read it!

Awesome!

I am super curious about the pouffy white dress book! I got married a couple years ago and it was such an interesting experience. Both my hubby and I are feminists and are uncomfortable (to a degree) with the very institution we joined.

Gotta check it out!

Heather: I looked at the book club review of that book, and it seems really interesting. I like books that don't pretend not to have an agenda because you get to active engage with them, and that seems like a book that would do that pretty well.

EXCELLENT post - I completely agree with you! And if you'd like another book that's a bit controversial (it sure has it's own agenda!), try out What Our Mothers Didn't Tell Us, by Danielle Crittendon. Here's a link to my book club's recap of our meeting on that book ... it was our most controversial ever.
