I just found out today that an article I submitted for publication in January was published! The story is called “Independent bookstores fight for survival”, and can be found in 77 Square, a local arts and entertainment guide in Madison!
For all you long-time readers out there, I’ve mentioned this particular story a couple of times; once in relation to the Buy Books for the Holidays campaign, and once to share an interview I did with Amy from My Friend Amy that didn’t make it into the story.
Check it out, I’d love to know what you think!

Nice job! I hope they all make it — I still miss Star Books, which closed on the near east side some two years ago. I much preferred it to going online.
This is such wonderful news. Congratulations!
Nice story. Congratulations!
Congrats Kim!!! That’s so fantastic.
Awesome news! Give yourself a pat on the back and pretend that it’s from me. I telepathically high-five you across the divide between our states. In short, way to be.
Great story, Kim! There’s a used bookstore that just opened in my town. It’s been growing, slowly but surely, but I hope it survive the downturn!
AWESOME!
Thanks everyone! I’m really proud of how this story turned out, so it’s especially gratifying to see it published!
Congrats!
Great story! Congratulations. I really am spoiled… I have lots of great independent book sellers in my area that I need to check out.
Nicely done! I feel silly now: I saw the article referenced somewhere–noted it because I used to live in Madison and am familiar with some of the bookstores–and didn’t make the connection that it was the same article you wrote.
Ali: That’s funny! I know the article was linked on wiscon, so maybe that is where you saw it.
CONGRATULATIONS!!! I am working on getting some articles published.
Congrats, Kim. I saw a similar article on Shelf-Awareness, but they didn’t credit you (?) was your story picked up somewhere else?
Here’s the S-A link.
Dawn: It must have been. Thank you for that link — that’s the beginning of my story along with some excerpts from other stories on independent bookstores. Very exciting!
