A couple of the stories in this collection, "The Tower" (where they try to build a tower to heaven) and "The Wizard of West Orange" (where a man tries to simulate the sense of touch), reminded me a bit of fairy tales or allegories. I think it's also easier to suspend your disbelief about the quirkiness for a short time; if the stories were longer you might get lost in them. That’s a really good point.
