I do keep track of comments I've left on other blogs. I pop back later if I know they tend to respond to comments, see what they've said, and sometimes keep the conversation going. I also seem to blog with people who comment on other commentors. When a good thead gets going, it can feel like a party!

Kim - I'm two assignments behind on the BIP - sick kids and, well, STUFF happens!

I wanted to write a (hopefully meaningful) comment to let you know I haven't dropped out and abandoned your guidance :) I'll catch up ... Thanks for all you're doing to spur us on!

This BIP week I have decided to follow the principle I posted about yesterday: showing, not telling.

(No, afraid I am showing off - horribly busy, but after I wrote my last BIP post about commenting, my readers have left so many fine & engaged comments - so one side of it works).

I don't always either, but if it's an interesting discussion I try to skim them. I guess it's more just a pipe dream for the day when I have infinite time and energy to read everything :)

Kim, I admit that I have so many feeds in my reader I rarely read all the previous comments, unless there are only a few. I just don't always have time!!

I really like it too. I don't subscribe to call posts, but the one's I'm interested in I always do. All my e-mails go to my blog e-mail and then I can check them when I have the time. I'm not great about going back and responding to comments, even with the notification, so maybe that's something to work on.

You're fantastic about following up on comments -- I loved the back and forth you and I had with Nymeth on a post about a week ago; that was really fun!

Fantastic, welcome!

I agree with you -- I like to think of my blog as conversational, but sometimes it's tough because it feels like I talk, I get responses, but then when I try to talk back again that doesn't happen.

The other thing I've noticed in book blogs is that comments rarely respond to each other. On newspaper or forums, comments almost always address other people who also commented. I don't get that a lot on my blog, and I haven't totally figured out why. Maybe it goes back to the whole one-sided thing: my blog seems like a place to interact with me, not with other bloggers.
