This is my favorite book of all time, I recommend it to everyone.

This is a non-fiction "story" that's both entertaining and informative--Can anyone recommend other good books that match this description?

I like the term "microhistory" -- I'd never thought of it like that before. I'm not usually a big history person either, but I love true stories and characters, which this book centers around.

We DO! I haven't heard of that book, but since we're so similar I'm going to go investigate right now...

Ooo, that's not a topic I'm usually interested in, but it sounds awesome! And if you liked it, then I bet I would too. Guess what I'm getting when I go to the library today?

Wow, I had no idea he'd written so many books! And I'm very new to audio books, so that might be a good thing to look into.

This is my favorite part of book reviews -- getting suggestions for other books and things to read in addition to this one.

Oooh! I am normally not a huge history fan, but I'll make exceptions for microhistories, and this one sounds like it would be really good. Off to my wishlist!

I've read 4 or 5. I loved the one about Krakatoa, and I've also read the one about maps. I think the OED (Meaning of Everything) one was my overall favorite.

The audiobooks are excellent: he reads his own books and he's really good. I'd recommend the audiobooks for someone not familiar with audio. I think he'd be a great start into the format.

Yes, Joseph also mentioned that book. I didn't know Winchester had written other books. I liked his writing style, so I imagine I'd like another book by him on the same subject.
