Reading at the Amusement Park?

by Kim on May 20, 2009 · 33 comments

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins finally came from the library! After reading a good review of this book from pretty much every blogger in my reader, I cannot wait to start.

The problem is that Boyfriend and I are going to Six Flags Great America today for his birthday, and I’m stuck driving.  I’m sure he won’t mind me reading while standing in the lines… right?

Where’s the oddest(or most inappropriate) place you’ve been caught reading?

There are no odd or inappropriate places to read, in my opinion.

Don’t do it! You’re going to get sucked into the book and forget where you’re at. You’re not going to want to get on rides. Wait until you get home! =)

I won’t say that I was caught, nor that it was particularly inappropriate, but we went to a very beachy wedding in the U.P. the day after Deathly Hallows came out, and (partially because my then-bf was very schmoozy with people I didn’t know) I kept sneaking back to the car once every hour or so.

It was worth it, too ;)

I read last week in gym class…while walking…while other people were playing other sports around me. Needless to say, I got hit by a basketball!

I also read while walking up the street to pick my little sister up from the bus stop. Reading during trigonometry is also a must for me!

I’m with Vasily–don’t do it! You will get sucked in!

The last Harry Potter book came out when I was in Hawaii with my whole extended family. I let everyone else read it and enjoyed the beaches. Then I got it on the airplane home.

Many happy returns of the day to the boyfriend! I haven’t been to that Great America since I was in middle school, I’ll be it’s changed a lot.

I’ve started reading things while listening to an audiobook. Not a very good idea.

Пора переименовать блог, присвоив название связанное с доменами :) может хватит про них?

I too read a book at Six Flags when I was 10 or 12 years old. I was a geek even then.

My copy just came from the library, too! I hope you like it. And I hope I like it. :D

I read everywhere, but the most innappropriate time would be many years ago, with my boyfriend at the time. His parents were absolutely horrible to be with, so I pretended needing to go to the bathroom a few times during the supper. Of course, I just sat in there and read! It was way more fun! But not very friendly of me!

I’m very curious about this book, too. I feel like it pops up everywhere I go! I’m on the waiting list for it at the library, too.

You mean how I was just reading The Hunger Games on the trail to the top of North America’s tallest waterfall (that I wussed out on)? Yeah, you should have seen the weird looks I was getting from people. That, AND, about 3 other people stopped to take my picture reading next to the fall which I thought was hilarious!

This weekend, I saw a woman at my salon completely engrossed in The Hunger Games. She came in, told the beautician what she wanted, and didn’t look up from her book until she was finished. It was great.

I think the worst place I’ve been known to have my nose in the book is while I’m walking outside, sometimes crossing the street. I know, it’s totally dangerous! But I keep an eye out for what my fellow pedestrians are doing and I never do it for long. :D

I’ve definitely read during a party before, I was a nerdy little kid.

I didn’t get to read it at all! I thought I’d be able to take stuff in line and then leave it by my shoes or something while we were on the ride. Turns out you can’t do that, so the book got stuck in a locker for the whole day. Ugh!

Ha ha ha, that’s awesome!

Yeah, reading Deathly Hallows is appropriate at any time, especially a boring wedding :)

Ha ha ha, very funny! I don’t think I’ve ever read during gym class, but I sure have wanted to. I’m not a very good book sneaker, so reading during class doesn’t usually fly either. I admire your dedication :)

Oooo, that is a great plan. That book would have made a long plane ride go by. Very smart!

I’d never been. It was a lot of fun! Since we went early in the year, and on a weekday, the lines were all pretty short. We even got to go a couple of rollercoasters twice in a row because no one was in line behind us.

It was lots of fun, thanks!

Yeah, I can’t imagine that would work well. I have to really concentrate on audiobooks, so I don’t think I could read anything else while listening.

I’ve been a geek since birth. I don’t think I went anywhere when I was a kid without at least one book, usually two. I read constantly.

I hope you like it too. I haven’t gotten to start it, stupid having fun with friends and stuff over the holiday weekend. Don’t they get I just want to read?? :)

Reply

Kim May 24, 2009 at 6:40 pm

Ha ha ha, that is probably the best story of this entire post!

Reply

Kim May 24, 2009 at 6:41 pm

Why wouldn’t you be reading next to a waterfall? That seems like a great place to finish a good book to me :)

Reply

Kim May 27, 2009 at 6:22 pm

I totally get The Hunger Thief, I did not want to put it down all of Memorial Day. I went to a party late just so I could finish it :)

I’ve never been able to read while waling. I’m a little clumsy, so I’m pretty sure that would end badly for me!
