The Sunday Salon: I've Been On Vacation :)

by Kim on May 17, 2009 · 12 comments

The Sunday Salon.comI’m done with the semester, yay!! I finished my last tests and projects last Thursday, and I’ve been off the grid since. Pretty much no Twitter, no Google Reader, and no blog, just spending time with my family and friends from the Twin Cities. It’s been great.

Today was the first afternoon in I don’t know how long where I got to just sit around and read. I set up one of those comfy camp chairs out on our porch and spent the afternoon suntanning and reading. I finished Understanding Comics and kept working on The Orchid Thief. If you have any questions about Understanding Comics, leave them in the comments and I’ll use them in my review.

I’ve also been thinking through this whole list of blog and book things I want to accomplish this summer. My short-term reading list includes The Book Thief, The Year of Magical Thinking, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Proust and the Squid, and Finding George Orwell in Burma. I think there are others, but I can’t remember. I’m just so, so excited to have time where I do what I want without feeling guilty that I’m not being a good student and doing my homework.

You’d think that after not blogging for that long I’d have more to say, but it’s all sort of escaped me right now. Life updates will come soon, and the promised celebration giveaway for my one year blogoversary. Thanks, by the way, to everyone who commented — your excitement was one of the things that kept me going through the hellish end of finals.

Anyway, I guess this will be it for now… happy Sunday (almost Monday)!

yes, congrats! Happy vacation, too. I am always amazed how many books we share in the done-read or hope-to-read-soon categories! Happy Blogoversary, too. :)

Hi there and congrats on finishing the semester!

I myself am nearly done with my MA-thesis, which is being delivered June 2.

The finishing of the thesis is the reason I haven’t been around for more than two months. Today is the first day in more than a month, that I am actually loggin’ into my blog. I have been online of course, but haven’t gone near the blog. I knew that I would get “caught” there, and I did not have the time to blog at all.

I did send a comment to all the bloggers on my blog roll that I would be absent, but for some reason I was never able to post it on your blog. Maybe because it was a copy-paste thing? Or did you get it?

But anyway, I am back and slowly making my way into the blog-world again. Haven’t read much, but will check out the BIP-post and see if I can sign up for the project where you needed one more participant.

Happy reading :)

Congratulations on making it to the end of the semester. Reading is so much more fun when there’s nothing nagging you away from it.

Thanks, I’m looking forward to it. I start my internship on Thursday, so a couple more days of vacation anyway.

Well, I know I will be reading The Book Thief this year (July – when I see my cuz again and she gives it back to me. We have a ‘book date’), I read The Year of Magical Thinking last year, I’ve attempted Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close so am curious abt your rx (it’s not that I didn’t like it!! I just wasn’t in the mood for it), and I am very intrigued with Proust and the Squid. and of course, The Orchid Thief…

PS – I’ve got a low-key giveaway going right now…

Wow, good luck on your thesis! I’m sure it will be great.

I think I got your earlier comment — I remember you stopping by and leaving a nice long one.

Happy reading to you too :)

Absolutely. Guilt-free reading is the thing I am most looking forward to this summer.
