Pop Culture Smash: Favorite Tumblr Mash-Ups

Although Tumblr seems to have fallen by the wayside when it comes to social networking popularity, it’s still home to one of my guilty pleasure on the Internet: pop culture mash-ups. I love stumbling (tumbling?) across a blog that combines bits from my favorite pieces of pop culture to create something new and funny. Instead of a regular post today, I thought I’d share three of my favorites (and one bonus mash-up from Twitter). In no particular order:

Downton Pawnee

In this blog, two of my favorite shows meet: Downton Abbey and Parks and Recreation. Although it’s hasn’t been updated recently, the short archives are well worth scrolling through.

Slaughterhouse 90210

Slaughterhouse 90210 is my favorite Tumblr of all time, and a perfect place for people who are television and literature lovers. With each post, creator Maris Kreizman combines an image from television with a quote from literature. It’s fabulous and funny and often sad, all at the same time.

Kanye West Wing

Ever since The West Wing appeared on Netflix Instant back in December (I think), I’ve done almost nothing but rewatch the entire show. Honestly, is there any better season of television than the first season of The West Wing? I think not. Anyway, I recently came across this excellent Tumblr, which mashes together screenshots from the show and lyrics from Kanye West songs. It’s brilliant.

Bonus: @DowntonWire, a Twitter feed from Downton Abbey in West Baltimore, with tweets like this:

What are you favorite pop culture mash-ups? Any Tumblrs or Twitter feeds to suggest?

      That is so great!

    Love it!

I have to admit, I love the SuperWhoLock posts on Tumblr (Supernatural, Dr. Who, and Sherlock).

I don’t pay thaaaat much attention to this category of thing, but I remember being quite amused by a Game of Thrones/Arrested Development mashup. It was shockingly apt.

Oh, and also those trailers for Avatar and Pocahontas? Where it was the Avatar trailer with Pocahontas soundtrack, and vice versa? That was quite good. I recall.

That sounds so awesome. I have to go find it. I loved all the Avatar/Pocahontas/Fern Gully stuff when that was happening too. It was almost too easy.

I’m so excited about Kanye West Wing! Off to read all the archives…

And, I follow @KimKierkegaard on twitter… a mash-up of statements by Kim Kardashian with a little of Soren Kierkegaard’s philosophy thrown in. 🙂

    • Kim February 18, 2013, 7:07 pm

Ha, KimKierkegaard. I think I’ve seen RTs of that, but I’m not a follower… which will be remedied.

Kanye West Wing makes my day every time I see a new post. Whoever is doing that one is really, really good.

Slaughterhouse 90210 is blowing my mind over and over! This is totally less intellectual, but for some reason I couldn’t stop giggling over Edith with Googly Eyes.

    • Kim February 18, 2013, 7:07 pm

My friend Erin showed me Edith with Googly Eyes. I had to stop looking at it after awhile because it was too creepy (but I still loved it).

haha – Downton Pawnee is my favorite, maybe because it’s the one where I’m familiar with both shows. still, it’s great.
