The Sunday Salon: Super Bowl Sunday!

The Sunday Salon.comFootball! Woo!

Yep, I am one of those people who is super excited about the Super Bowl today. Even though intellectually I know there are a lot of things to criticize about professional sports, I still love watching a good football game. Come tonight, I’ll be on my couch cheering and eating snacks. I still haven’t decided whether to cheer for the Ravens or the 49ers, but I think this guide to picking a team may help me choose.

If you’re not into football, Jenn over at Jenn’s Bookshelves is hosting a read-a-thon today, The Big Game’s On Read-a-Thon, that looks like a ton of fun. And if you’re not into reading or watching football… I’m not sure I can compute 🙂

But before the big game, I’ve got some work to do. I got a lot of weekend chores done yesterday, but today I still need to do my laundry, make soup, and go to Radio Shack to pick out my new cell phone! My family just got to our two-year upgrade, so I’m heading out today to pick a new phone. I still haven’t quite decided what to get, but I’m leaning towards the Samsung Galaxy S III.

This week, I managed to finish two books: The Revolution Was Televised by Alan Sepinwall and The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker. I liked both of very different reasons, and I hope to have reviews up sometime this week.

When I do find some time to read today, I’ll be picking up either Marvel Comics: The Untold Story by Sean Howe or The Amazing Absorbing Boy by Rabindranath Maharaj. I started The Amazing Absorbing Boy last night before bed and, so far, I think it’s awesome. The main character, Samuel, is a 16-year-old boy from Trinidad who gets shipped off to live with his estranged father in Canada after his mother passes away. I think the book is going to be about family and expectations and new places and adjustment, all wrapped up in a love for comic books that I find appealing.

Anyway, that’s my Sunday. I hope you all are staying warm — it’s been BITTERLY cold in Minnesota this week, so I’m staying under blankets as much as I can. Have a wonderful day!

I am supporting the Ravens because a) I do not care for the 49ers even though they are an NFC team and that’s where my loyalty should be; and b) apparently, like, NOBODY is supporting the Ravens. Apparently everyone supports the 49ers. That makes me sad. RAAAAAAAAAAAAVENS.

I had to go with the 49ers. My dear friend is a Steelers fan, and therefore has to hate the Ravens. But extension, I had to hate the Ravens too (but it’s nothing personal 🙂 ).

I haven’t decided yet who to cheer for. I usually go for the team that has won the Superbowl the least. Sometimes!

I’m reading a mystery right now, so hope to read that up until game time. A lazy Sunday is so my plan!

I’m anxious for the commercials, but not the game:)

I wasn’t even sure which team was playing the Ravens, so I suppose I might as well support them. And hey! Literary reference! 😉

    • Kim February 5, 2013, 4:17 pm

The literary reference is fun. And you live on the East Coast, so the Ravens are sort of your team? I’m in the Midwest, so neither one works!

I loved that article on picking a team. Part of me wants to root for the Ravens because of the literary connection, but we’ll be cheering for San Francisco out of state loyalty.

    • Kim February 5, 2013, 4:18 pm

Good choice. It must be weird living in a state with two teams in the same sport.

I love college football but am not crazy about the NFL. They’re behavior during tonight’s game highlights why. I’m watching the game, though, because I want to see the commercials.

    • Kim February 5, 2013, 4:18 pm

Yeah, it was a really rough game… lots of poor behavior between plays. I wasn’t impressed with that.

I’m not into UK football at all (“soccer”) though if we had American football I’d probably watch it, it looks more fun. We had rugby on Saturday so it was a sporty weekend here, too. Hope it was a good match and the team you chose won 🙂

I hadn’t planned to watch the Super Bowl, even though I was going to be (and still am) at my parents where I could watch it. We don’t have cable or satellite at home so if home I wouldn’t have seen it. However, I watched it anyway and was glad I was did. It was quite a game, even though I wanted the other team to win.

    • Kim February 5, 2013, 4:19 pm

It was quite a game! I was feeling down on it at half time, but then the power went out and the 49ers made a great almost comeback. It was a fun second half, anyway.

Hope you enjoyed your Super Bowl day!
