wpid-IMG_20130310_082728.jpgTime // 8:31 a.m.

Place // At my desk in my office… this is starting to be a theme, isn’t it?

Eating // A buttermilk biscuit with strawberry jelly from a smitten kitchen recipe

Drinking // The Republic of Tea Blood Orange Cinnamon tea

Watching // Season seven of The West Wing. I just finished watching the election episodes last night and wow, tense. I’ve been really loving this season, in particular the great scenes with C.J. Cregg and Kate Harper — powerful ladies doing important things!

Reading // Nothing, at the moment. I finished Big Data by Viktor Mayer-Schönberger and Kenneth Cukier yesterday afternoon and haven’t started anything new yet. I spent most of yesterday afternoon writing instead of reading. I think my next book is going to be The Girls of Atomic City by Denise Kiernan.

Listening // To the audio book for Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. The boyfriend and I will also be driving today, so I may sneak in an episode or two of Pop Culture Happy Hour (I’m like, two months behind).

Making // I finally finished a crocheting project this week, a scarf using Tunisian crochet. I don’t have a decent picture of it — I need natural light so the colors really show up — but suffice it to say it’s nice to have finished something. I’ve been neglecting my crocheting for awhile.

Promoting // One of my favorite websites, The Electric Typewriter, over at Book Riot. It’s my current go-to source for good essays and lists of contemporary journalism.

Anticipating // A longish drive to St. Cloud today to meet my family and celebrate my dad’s birthday. My family lives about three hours away, so we made plans this week to meet approximately in the middle for lunch today. Which would be fine, except my part of the state got rain followed by snow yesterday (thanks, March!), so I’m not sure what the roads will be like. If they are bad, the boyfriend and I may just need to stay home (something I would be really disappointed about).

But I suppose if that were to happen, I’d give me more time to read, write, and power through the last five episodes of The West Wing this afternoon instead. But I really want to see my family (and go shopping)… I hate winter.

BR advisory board buttonEdited to Add: I almost forgot to share some exciting news about a new project I am involved with: Bloggers Recommend, a monthly newsletter where bloggers share their most anticipated books of the month. It’s a project being organized by Jen (Devourer of Books) and Nicole (Linus’s Blanket), and the Advisory Board has some pretty awesome people on it (if I do say so myself). Sign up for the newsletter, it’s going to be great!

Happy Sunday, everyone! Check back tomorrow for the first check-in post for our read-a-long of Possession and a special blog milestone post on Wednesday.

Oh, I hope you get to meet up with your family today! I can’t wait to see what you think of The Girls of Atomic City – I signed up for the author’s lunch when she comes here.

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:26 pm

I did get to go to St. Cloud, which I was so grateful for. I really like The Girls of Atomic City so far, just a couple chapters in. She’s doing some fun things with the mystery of the jobs and community that I think is cool.

  • Trisha March 10, 2013, 9:27 am

I have never watched The West Wing, but I hear such great things about it that I really want to. Hopefully someday I will actually have time to watch it. 🙂

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:27 pm

It was so good! The first couple of seasons are some of the best seasons of TV I’ve ever watched (and still relevant despite the age and major changes to network/cable television).

  • Lynn @ Books on the Bay March 10, 2013, 9:48 am

Oh the bloggers recommend project sounds interesting – it’s nice to have all the info in one place digest-style.

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:28 pm

I think it’ll be really cool. But now I have to start reading ahead more than I do now, which will be an adjustment!

  • Megan March 10, 2013, 12:10 pm

Oh, I miss The West Wing. That’s one series that I watched when it was on that I’d most like to revisit. It might possibly be somewhat to blame for this political science degree that I’m still paying for and not really using. 😉

Hope the roads are cleared and you get to hang out with your family today!

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:29 pm

I think I was just a tad too young to have watched the show when it was actually on TV, but it’s been really fun to watch in a big marathon. Thank you for putting it on streaming, Netflix!

I’m sure I will watch it again sometime in the future too.

  • Vasilly March 10, 2013, 12:49 pm

Big Data sounds interesting. I’ll probably check it out. I haven’t watched The West Wing before either, just bits and pieces of it. I hope you’re able to make it to see your family today.

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:29 pm

Big Data was good, for the most part. The anecdotes they shared were fascinating. I can’t wait to write a review.

  • Bryan March 10, 2013, 1:20 pm

Season 7. I’m so jealous…I’m still back in Season 3. Unfortunately, there are so many good shows out there, although admittedly this was one of the best.

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:30 pm

There are a lot of good shows out there. I’m trying to decide what to dive into next and I can’t quite make up my mind. I think I want something with a little shorter commitment, but I’m having trouble deciding what.

  • Belle Wong March 10, 2013, 1:26 pm

Hope you make it to your family’s lunch! I’ve started reading more personal essays, so thanks so much for pointing me to your post about The Electric Typewriter.

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:30 pm

I hope you find some good ones on the site!

  • Joanna March 10, 2013, 1:28 pm

I need to get season 3 of Th West Wing, I’m so behind! I recently discovered PCHA and love it. And Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me. Love the Bloggers Recommend project, cant wait for the first newsletter!

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:31 pm

The West Wing is currently streaming on Netflix, if you have that? Getting it on streaming it what finally got me past Season 4.

  • Athira March 10, 2013, 3:07 pm

I would love to see a picture of your scarf! I just took up knitting recently and am still on my first project but hopefully I’ll finish it soon! Off to check The Electric Typewriter.

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:31 pm

I will get one this week then! I tried to take one on Saturday, but the colors looked awful in the lighting.

  • Florinda March 10, 2013, 4:02 pm

You’ve REALLY made me want to re-watch THE WEST WING (at least through Season 4)–when that show was at its best, there was almost nothing better!

I’ve bookmarked The Electric Typewriter to check out, based in your rec. And speaking of recs, I really like the “Bloggers Recommend” concept. I’ve signed up for the newsletter (and a future opening on the advisory board!) and hope to contribute some suggestions to future issues.

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:33 pm

The first four season were awesome. Five and six struggled a bit, but I really loved season 7 too — mostly because of how fun it was to watch C.J. and Kate being awesome and solving problems.

I think Bloggers Recommend is going to be so cool. The advisory board is pretty badass. But now I have to try to read more ahead than I do (which is to say I don’t really read ahead at all right now…). It’s going to be a transition.

  • Jennifer March 11, 2013, 7:34 am

I’m so excited about the Bloggers Recommend thingy 😉 Such a great idea! I hope you made it to St. Cloud. I drive through there a few times a year on the way to my mom’s house 🙂

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:34 pm

Interesting! Where does your mom live?

      • Jennifer March 11, 2013, 6:35 pm

She’s in Dassel, on Wolf Lake 🙂

  • Nikki Steele March 11, 2013, 10:24 am

How do you like Outlander so far? Isn’t the narrator wonderful?

Bloggers Recommend sounds great. I’ve had a few people ask me lately where to find book recommendations, and it would be great to have such a centralized place to send them.

    • Kim March 11, 2013, 6:34 pm

She is really great, I love all the Scottish accents. I feel like it’s taking me a little while to get into it, but I like it so far.

  • Trish March 12, 2013, 6:59 am

I just tried out this format for my Sunday post and really liked it! It’s a fun way to share and I love reading other people’s “currently.” I’ve been thinking about starting West Wing but the last thing I need is for Scott and I to get addicted to another show because then we’re usually sucked in for hours at a time until it’s over. Ha! And Outlander! I need to start that one soon. Glad you’re liking it so far.

    • Kim March 17, 2013, 1:59 pm

I like it too! I think I like that there’s a little structure, so I don’t have to think too hard, but enough flexibility that I can ramble on a Sunday morning.
