Time // 10:10 a.m.

Place // At my desk in my office. I contemplated writing somewhere else to spice it up, but I’m feeling lazy this morning.

Eating // A banana and chocolate chips… my plan to eat healthier and move more in March has gotten slightly derailed.

Drinking // Bigelow Lemon Lift tea

Reading // This weekend I started Jeff Chu’s investigation/memoir Does Jesus Really Love Me? A Gay Christian’s Pilgrimage in Search of God in America. I’m about a third done and so far it’s just excellent. Unless things go awry in the end, I think I’ll be rating this one pretty highly.

Watching // After I Bloggiesta-ed like a boss yesterday, I got caught up on The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, an online adaptation of Pride and Prejudice told through a series of video diaries and other new media. I’m finally caught up and OMG that KISS! Now I really want to read P&P.

Listening // I started listening to NPR Music’s 100 Favorite Songs of 2012 on Spotify, which is really fun. It’s almost entirely artists and songs I don’t know (I’m not a new music adventurer), but it’s a really fun, up-beat list.

Pondering // I’ve been thinking a lot about work this week. I love my job as a small town newspaper editor, despite the fact that there are a million things I don’t know and a million ways I could do this job better. Most weeks I’m inspired by everything that I don’t know because it means that I have ways to grow and improve. But some weeks the weight of all this stuff I don’t do well yet really gets me down. This has been one of those weeks, so I’ve had to ponder ways to get myself over this mental hump and back to doing the best I can.

Blogging // Like I said before, I’ve been working hard during the Bloggiesta this weekend. The big projects I wanted to get done were updating my About Me page and changing my Review Policy. I decided that I’m no longer going to accept fiction books for review. I’m still going to read fiction, but it will be entirely on my terms: books I buy or books from the library. I don’t accept much fiction now, so I doubt anyone will really see a change but it felt like a relief to finally put that out there.

Hannah, pictured above, was a big help yesterday. She spent much of the morning under my desk, messing with my computer cords and knocking over stacks of paper I haven’t filed yet. Thanks cat!

Promoting // I’m really proud of the two reviews I posted this week, one of Big Data by Viktor Mayer-Schönberger and Kenneth Cukier and Capital of the World by Charlene Mires. I hope you’ll check them out!

Hating // The weather!! It’s been freezing (below zero) all week, which is normal for Minnesota in the winter but awful for the spring. Luckily (?), we’re supposed to get above freezing by the end of the week, so that’s something…

weather

Anticipating // I’m hoping for a full and productive day, despite sleeping in much later than normal. I want to knock off several more items from my Bloggiesta to do list (especially finishing a book and getting two more posts written for the week… and answering e-mails). I would also like to get to the gym, but we’ll see if I can force myself out of the house.

Happy Sunday, everyone! What are you reading today?

I just started The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, it’s so cool! That list of NPR music sounds great too, I’m not very adventurous in music either so it would do me good to check it out, I think. hope you enjoyed bloggiesta, I didn’t get to take part this time, but I’m going to check out some of the posts to get ideas.

I’ve never been a huge music person, but it’s gotten worse since we moved because we have very few radio station options here. I tend to get some recommendations from friends, but don’t actively seek new music or stumble upon it. This playlist has been a ton of fun all day.

Spring seems a distant dream around these parts. So freaking cold.

    • Kim March 24, 2013, 6:53 pm

Oh my gosh, I know! I swear, there is going to be snow on the ground until June. Hate.

I have been so busy I didnt even know about Bloggiesta until it was here. First one I have missed since I began blogging. Oh well, the Library sale took all my energy and I am vegging today – but awesome you participated and I will have to check out some of the posts 🙂

I too am hating the weather…. SO OVER SNOW. 😉 Have an awesome day!

I think I just caught a mention on Twitter several weeks ago and added it to the calendar. I got a lot more done yesterday than I did today, but overall I think it was pretty productive.

  • Sheila (Book Journey) March 24, 2013, 12:44 pm

Oh and forgot to mention – Does Jesus Really Love Me? A Gay Christian’s Pilgrimage in Search of God in America sounds really good… I just received a credit from Amazon – I am going to check this book out.

    • Kim March 24, 2013, 6:56 pm

I am enjoying it a lot. It reads to me as a very generous, honest book, which is hard to do with such a difficult topic.

The banana was healthy and one could argue that chocolate is a dairy and is high in antioxidants, right? So really, you’re still on track!

    • Kim March 24, 2013, 6:56 pm

I like the way you think!

It’s 20 degrees below our normal temperatures for this date. Our winter was mild until March when it got cold. I’m ready for spring.

    • Kim March 24, 2013, 6:57 pm

We had a decent winter until maybe mid-January, and since then it’s just been cold and snowy constantly. Well, not constantly, but it feels like that!

  • Jenny March 24, 2013, 6:54 pm

Your mention of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries has finally tipped me over the edge. I am watching the third episode right now. Yay!

    • Kim March 24, 2013, 6:58 pm

I thought it was a charming web series (and I’ve never read P&P, so I was missing a lot, I am sure). My sister, who loves the book, enjoyed it a ton too. The girl who plays Lizzie is wonderful. I hope you like it!

  • Athira March 24, 2013, 7:20 pm

I love snow but then I live in a town where we don’t get an overwhelming amount of snow. Just enough to make it white but not enough to stay home. I waited all winter for a good amount of snow, but nada. And when I finally announced that I’m ready for spring, we get a massive snowstorm today.

I hope it gets warmer for you soon!

    • Kim March 25, 2013, 8:01 pm

The weather is twisted like that, isn’t it? We’ve had lasting snow on the ground since November or December. Getting more in March is awful!

  • Charlie March 25, 2013, 8:21 am

Apart from a slight change in atmosphere (or rather the sun stays around longer) it’s the same here in the UK, and quite depressing. As you’ve got the job of editor, you are obviously good at it – improving is always great and you’ve the right mindset, but you don’t necessarily need to know everything from the word go when you’ve got that mindset 🙂

    • Kim March 25, 2013, 8:01 pm

Thanks Charlie 🙂 It’s always good to get reminders to be more gentle and forgiving of myself when I’m frustrated.

  • susan March 25, 2013, 4:21 pm

Good luck with the temps and Hannah. Cute kitty.

    Waiting for spring myself.

    • Kim March 25, 2013, 8:02 pm

      Spring needs to come soon!

  • Jessica @ Quirky Bookworm March 25, 2013, 4:29 pm

I looooove LBD. So happy that “Dizzie” finally made up. 🙂
(Also – does your comment mean that you want to re-read P&P, or that you’ve never read it??!)

    • Kim March 25, 2013, 8:02 pm

I’ve never read it (hides face). But just last night I ordered a copy of the book and I am going to read it as soon as it gets here 🙂
