Time and Place // 8:40 a.m. at my dad’s computer in the Twin Cities

Eating and Drinking // Nothing yet, I’m saving room for the birthday brunch we’re having in a couple of hours

Reading // I had a slow, but great, week of reading. I finished Boy, Snow, Bird by Helen Oyeyemi, a re-imagining of Snow White set in New England in the 1950s, on Thursday night. Since then I’ve been reading Postcards from Cookie by Caroline Clarke (April 15 from Harper), which follows on a lot of the themes of race and motherhood from Boy, Snow, Bird. I love unexpected book connections like that.

Watching // My sister and I went to see the Veronica Mars movie yesterday afternoon and it was exactly what we we, as fans and Kickstarter backers, were hoping for in a movie from the show. I won’t talk about it much because of spoilers other than to say that it was awesome and so worth the money we spent to help have it made.

Listening // I finished an audio book this week! I’ve been putzing through Paddle Your Own Canoe, a memoir by Nick Offerman, on my drive to the Twin Cities on Friday night. I liked it a lot, but because the book as a whole was so meandering I never had any forward momentum pushing me to finish it.

Blogging // This week I shared a review of Busted by Wendy Ruderman and Barbara Laker and brought back the Nonfiction Recommendation Engine. It was a good week of blogging, despite being totaly distracted by the beautiful weather we had for a couple of days.

Promoting // Serena at Savvy Verse and Wit is organizing a blog tour for National Poetry Month. I’m all signed up for a post and you should be too!

Hating // I had a tough week at work this week — lots of (in my opinion) unwarranted criticism about how we’re doing — but I managed to leave most of that at work to enjoy my weekend at home.

Loving // My sister and I got pedicures yesterday morning and spend our day of shopping and movies wearing sandals. There’s still snow on the ground, but whatever. I love my sparkly teal toenails.

Avoiding // This is the time of year when all I want to do is stuff my face with Cadbury Creme Eggs. I need to stay away from those delicious little sugar bombs.

Wanting // I wish my weekend was a day longer, but I’ll get over that soon enough.

Anticipating // My sister made two kinds of cupcakes for my dad’s birthday — carrot cake with cream cheese frosting and chocolate with cookie dough frosting. I can’t wait to try them both!

Happy Sunday, everyone! What are you reading today?

Sometimes it’s not easy leaving work at work. Even in the relatively stress-free job I have now, I find that too, but luckily this weekend, I have three days off so no worries. I’m glad you’re enjoying your weekend too, especially the Veronica Mars movie.

Most of the time I can bitch a little to the boyfriend and then let work things slide off my back. In this instance, it was nice to physically get out of town and literally leave it behind 🙂

Oh no, you reminded me that the Cadbury Creme Eggs are now out in full force. I also have problems resisting. Are you an original only sort of fan, or do you also go in for the caramel and chocolate center kinds? I remember years and years ago I was in England during the spring, and McDonalds had Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurries. My friend and I loved them so much.

And yay, it seems the Veronica Mars movie has pleased all the fans and backers including myself. The most negative thing I’ve heard has had to do with the problems some had with Flixster/Ultraviolet.

I tried one of the chocolate ones and I was not a huge fan; I think the original has slid its way into my heart. I can’t imagine that as a McFlurry flavor — it sounds AWESOME.

I love your toenails, super pretty 😀 Mmmm, Cadbury! Those are ridiculous and awesome all in one. I’m glad you enjoyed your movie and your sister time. Have a great week, Kim!

    • Kim March 16, 2014, 8:33 pm

It was a really great weekend, thanks! Same you you!

I love the flip flops in the snow. I totally support that! Glad VM was awesome I’m hoping to see it this week.

    • Kim March 16, 2014, 8:33 pm

Normally I am a “shoes with toes until snow is gone” sort of gal, but we had to show off the pedicures 🙂

Those eggs are the devil’s work I tell you. I adore them, just absolutely adore them. I tried buying a box of four, thinking I could have one a week. Yeah, more like one a day, so no more eggs in this house.

    • Kim March 16, 2014, 8:34 pm

Yeah… I’m getting close to a one a day habit, which is just terrible. I need to cut back.

I’m sorry you had a tough week at work and hope things get better! We had spring weather yesterday but today is yucky with a capital y.

    • Kim March 16, 2014, 8:34 pm

It’s been alternating beautiful and chilly for about a week now, but it’s hard to be mad at the cold when it’s still well about zero 🙂

  • Athira March 16, 2014, 5:10 pm

I cannot wait to read Boy Snow Boy. I’ve been hearing lots about Helen Oyeyemi’s works. Hope this week goes much better for you at work.

    • Kim March 16, 2014, 8:35 pm

I really liked it. It was one of those books with a great story, but with enough other “stuff” going on that I know it’ll be interesting on a reread too.

  • Sandy March 17, 2014, 10:50 am

OMG those damned eggs. And they have different flavors too, which even makes it worse. My kids would riot if they didn’t get them for Easter. And sorry about the work crap. It is good that you can vent to your boyfriend and get away from it. Even 10 years after I quit working, I still have Post-Traumatic Stress flashbacks from all of that.

  • Jenny @ Reading the End March 17, 2014, 8:17 pm

Yayyyyyy to Veronica Mars!! I have already watched it twice and I shall watch it a third time. I was commenting on Ana’s blog that I was surprised how much I enjoyed the cussing — just, like, Veronica is the kind of person who would cuss sometimes, and it was fun that she got to actually do it. In the Netflix series that would follow this (in my happy dreams where everything happens according to my desires), she and Logan and Mac and Weevil could swear all they wanted. (Wallace is too much of a dear to cuss.)

    • Kim March 25, 2014, 9:45 pm

The idea of Veronica Mars on Netflix makes me so happy. I would love that soooooo much.

  • Katie @ Doing Dewey March 20, 2014, 7:17 am

I only recently had my first Cadbury egg and it was so sweet it made my teeth hurt, but I loved it anyway. Now every time I go to the store, I have to talk myself out of buying some!

  • Serena March 20, 2014, 9:41 am

Thanks for promoting the Poetry Month blog tour!
