Weekly Geeks
Weekly Geeks is a community-building weekly meme. Topics have ranged from book recommendations from different genres to visiting other Weekly Geek blogs to explore what you have in common. You can participate in as many or as few weekly themes as you wish. Weekly Geeks was formerly hosted by Dewey at The Hidden Side of a Leaf and has been continued in her honor. Click to learn more about Weekly Geeks and more about Dewey. |

The Sunday Salon
Every Sunday, book readers and bloggers from around the world gather virtually for an online book discussion. It’s a great, weekly excuse to just take some time to think and write about reading. I love it. You can get info about joining the Salon here. |

The 24-Hour Read-a-Thon The 24-Hour Read-a-Thon is sort of a mix between a reading challenge and a reading community. For 24 hours, bloggers read books, post about reading, and visit other blogs in a huge community reading event. It’s pretty darn awesome. You can see my progress as a Cheerleader during the April 18, 2009 Read-a-Thon by reading these posts: Introduction, My Comic!, Afternoon Update, Early Evening Update, Bedtime Update, and Comic Winner and Five Lessons Learned. |

You can see the full list of participants here. My date is December 17, so be sure to stop back then! |

Has anyone taken over Weekly Geeks? This is the first I’ve heard of it and I know Dewey isn’t with us anymore. It sounds like a great idea though.
Elizabeth: Yes, Weekly Geeks is now being organized by a group of people, and moved to the site http://www.weeklygeeks.com. I think we’re starting up again on January 10. Thanks for pointing this out, I need to update this page!
Kim, do you know of any communities/activities that a journalism blogger might be a part of? I’ve recently started a new blog instead of my book blog, and it focuses on my role as a journalism student. I’m trying to find a niche like I did in the book blogging community!
