Monthly Review

April was a stressful month, and May turned into kind of a mess of a month too. While I can think of a couple specific events that threw me off my game or caused some consternation, I can’t quite account for how grumpy the month made me and how happy I am to put it [...]

April was a pretty stressful month on the personal side, but pretty darn good when it came to reading. Thanks to the Readathon on Saturday, as well as some time spent with comics, I managed to finish 12 books this month: Gooch, Brad: Smash Cut (memoir) Battles, Matthew: Palimpsest (nonfiction) Stevenson, Noelle: Lumberjanes, Vol. 1 [...]

Hooray hooray, March is over. I can’t even tell you how happy that makes me. And Minnesota even escaped March with only a couple days of significant snowfall. Not too shabby, spring. Now that I’ve said this, we’ll probably get three feet of snow in April and not see ground again until May… oops. Anyway, [...]

Despite being cold and rather strange, February was a satisfying month in my reading life. I finished 11 books, although two were comic books and one was a deluxe edition of a comic. Without those, I finished eight prose books — about average for me, I’d say. Here’s the list: Fathi, Nazila: The Lonely War (nonfiction) Vaughn, [...]

Unintentionally, I spent most of January focusing on books by and about strong women. Other than my first book of the year, all of the authors I read this month were female — an unusual occurrence! Here’s what I read in January: Crummey, Michael: Sweetland (fiction) Rappaport, Helen: The Romanov Sisters (nonfiction) Adichie, Chimamanda Ngozi: We Should All Be [...]

A Look at 2014 in Bookish Stats

I started book blogging in 2008. At the end of the year, I fell in love with posts where bloggers would break down their year in reading. Beginning in 2010, I started to keep detailed statistics about each book I read so I could look back on my year in reading that way too. I [...]

I know that pretty much everyone says this, but seriously, how can it be December already? I honestly can’t account for where the time has gone, although I feel like it’s been a generally good year. But December? Seriously? I can’t get my head around it. November was a busy month, with work, with life, [...]

Who has two thumbs and fell of the blogging bandwagon this week? That’s right, this girl! Work and life got in the way in a pretty significant way, but that’s just the way it is. No sense dwelling on the disappointing — let’s look at my October reading, which was anything but disappointing (transitions!). Thanks [...]

I feel like I started to get some of my reading groove back near the end of September. I’m not sure what clicked, but something must have because I finished eight pretty great books (and only one of them was a comic book!). I’m still struggling a bit with reviews, but getting over slumps is a [...]

In terms of reading (and let’s be honest, blogging), August was pretty much a bust. After reading a ton in July, I just didn’t have the mental space for many books this month. And you know what? I’m entirely ok with that. Reading goes in cycles and you just have to go with the flow [...]
